The Rolfing® Process

The Rolfing Series is a sequence of 10-15 sessions, each of which focuses on a
specific region of fascial geography and has detailed structural goals.

The series is designed for the individual needs of the client but Rolfers basically
follow 3 cycles: beginning (superficial), middle (deeper), and end (closure and
integration). Rolfing is not an ongoing process but follows this method with a
defined end.

The
beginning cycle is devoted to loosening and balancing the surface layers
of connective tissue. This is a critical first step in the process of achieving
improved structural balance and integration.

In this first cycle we work with the relationship between the structures of the rib
cage and the pelvis through breathing. We also have our focus on bringing more
support and balance for the body through work on the legs and spine. We also
organize the relationship between the front and the back of the body seeking to
organize the body around a conceptual line that runs from the earlobe to the
ankle.

The
next cycle is the deeper sessions (or core sessions). Our focus is on
deeper myofascial layers and core related structures from feet to head. We work
on inner leg and intra-pelvic structures, abdominal muscles and abdominal cavity,
sacrum, deeper muscles of the spine, arms, neck and head.

The
final cycle is the integration and closure process.

During these sessions the Rolfer has an opportunity to tie the previous sessions
together. Leading the client to achieve a higher level of integration. By seeking
what the client's body needs to be more complete, more balanced, and freer to
express its full potential.
